Are There Advantages to Web Based Project Management Software?

Web based software is the wave of the future. Your team can stay connected anywhere in the world in real-time and you will always be connected. If you’ve outgrown your present project management software, now’s the time to explore the new generation of software to keep your projects running smoothly from start to finish.

The ability to track, manage, and control resources and manpower is available in most packages but selecting the right project management software for your company is imperative in keeping your projects on time and under budget.

When selecting new software start by looking at the features. Do you need a high-quality software program that adheres to the Project Management Institute’s (PMI’s) standards? A feature-rich program will enable your team to work faster and easier. But paying for features that will never be used is a waste of money, so be selective when reviewing options. To avoid costly mistakes, you should have a clear understanding of what the software can and can not do before you buy.

How much information is available at a glance? How easy or intuitive will the software be for you and your team members to use? Will your clients and vendors be able to network too?  Can each user customize their individual work space? Are permissions options available? Can top management readily see and understand project status reports?

Once you have decided on the features you need, you may want to verify if the project management software interfaces with other programs you already use. Some programs will allow the importing and exporting files to other software such as MS Project files.

In addition to project time tracking, you may need budget tracking capabilities such as costing, expense management and invoicing capability. Lower-end project management software may be easy to use but may not have the critical information features your team needs.

A clear understanding of your team’s requirements will help you select software to successfully complete your projects each and every time
