Importance of Usability: Part II - Updating Tasks

Since entering time was just so simple and easy, it only made sense to move along to the next step within our project management software, Project Insight. And that next step was to update tasks assigned to me as a project moved along. My fear: doing it wrong or ruining the project (and I'm pretty sure other users fear the same thing). Regardless, at the end of the day, those tasks need to be up to date in order for the project to move along as smoothly as possible.

So I couldn't help but wonder...how will I even know which tasks are assigned to me? Or how long will it take me to find the tasks and update them?

Luckily, my questions were answered as soon as I logged in and saw the ‘My Insight' page...and it was all there! It was important to have everything that I was supposed to start working on easy to find and readily available. A box labeled PROJECTS with a list of projects that I was assigned as a resource to and a box labeled TASKS with a list of tasks that I was directly assigned to work on. The last thing I wanted to do was dig deep in order to find something as simple and basic as my tasks for the week. Having the ability to view the project as a whole and the option to go directly to the task made it easy for me to quickly scan over the entire project timeline or simply update my task. Something I've learned from growing up using the internet is that people don't like to work in between windows and having to go back and forth, or click on too many links to arrive at their end destination. That's why being able to update percent complete and write any quick comments on the current status of the task within one view is user friendly- the less clicks, the more likely the user will actually keep coming back!
