Importance of Usability: Part IV – Issues

Issues always happen. In nearly every project, an unexpected event occurs, affecting the overall purpose and goal of the project.  So thank goodness for issue management and tracking. Of course, when an issue arises, it should NOT be a big process to make sure it is brought to someone's attention. This is why it's so great that within Project Insight, web project management software, a user can create an issue from more than one place within the system. Having the option to either create one from the portal page or directly from the task increases usability from the user's perspective.

Issues don't entail too much information- just a basic name and description, which is why creating an issue should be just as simple. It does help empower the user (and the rest of the team) to be able to assign the issue to a fellow team member as well. When it comes to something as involved as issues, it goes beyond getting into the habit of logging time or creating a project in the right place and right into working as a team and being held accountable for tasks assigned. Being able to identify an issue, create one and assign to another person gives the end user more ownership of the task at hand. And if you ask me, having a greater sense of ownership within a project management tool goes hand in hand with usability.
