At the very base level, a Project Manager is a coordinator of people and the activities they need to perform or complete. Someday you might manage hundreds of people at one time towards a common goal but to get started think small and local. You'll take a group of people, set a goal, assign tasks, provide team members, what they need to succeed while motivating them to complete their tasks. Easy, right?
Hopefully lots of ideas will come to mind when you think small and local. Here's 10 I thought of:- Volunteer to be the room parent for your child's class
- Become a member of the PTA and then offer your time to plan an event
- Plan a family vacation or reunion
- Raise your hand when the boss is looking for someone to coordinate the blood drive or holiday part
- Remember, change management is also project management. What big change is coming at your place of employment? Can you help to guide it to success?
- Got to your neighborhood home owner's association meeting or condo board meeting and offer to help organize the Easter egg hunt
- Volunteer for a dog rescue group and work your way into a leadership role
- Look on job placement sites like Indeed, Linkedin, and Monster for opportunities
- Find your local PMI Chapter and get involved. They'll help you find ways to gain experience!
