Resource Types/Roles

Resource Types/Roles are used in tasks to assist in assigning resources to tasks within a project. For example, you may plan a project without knowing which resources will be applied to the project once it is approved. By assigning resource types/roles to each task, you enable the ability to go back into the project later and assign your resources by making the resource type/role association with the resource. This is a much more efficient mechanism for assigning tasks to owners than going in and individually assigning a resource to each task. For example, you may add one programmer to 12 programming tasks rather than going into each of the 12 tasks to assign the programmer to each one.

Resource Types/roles may also be used for reporting purposes. For example, a report could total resources and budgets across multiple projects to determine total resource requirements for a programmer over a select period of time.

Name is the only required field.

Custom Code may be entered if you intend to map data from Project Insight to other systems.

Default Time Code sets the default selection on all time entries entered for the task with this Resource Type/Role association. This setting will override the user default, so that a user assigned to a different default time code will still default to this code when entering time specifically for a task assigned to this Resource Type/Role.

Default Expense Code sets the default selection on all expense entries entered for the task with this Resource Type/Role association. This setting will override the user default, so that a user assigned to a different default expense code will still default to this code when entering time specifically for a task assigned to this Resource Type/Role.

Order sets the order in which the resource type/role displays for selection in drop-downs and lists. If no value is placed in this field, it defaults to 0 and performs an alphanumeric ordering by resource type/role name.

Edit and Delete icons on each existing line are used to edit the data in the line. In use time and resource types/roles can be edited, which will update the resource types/roles in all respective entries.

Save and Cancel icons will always display on one line. The line on which these icons are displayed is either a new resource type/role or an existing resource type/role which is currently being edited.
