Time, date and user referenced comments may be logged to many of the items contained within Project Insight. You may separately configure the Name data fields for selection on the comments to help further define the comment log on any item. For example, project status comments may have names associated with them to help identify the current project status.

Project Status Comments are comments made at the project level for maintaining a log of changes as they occur for the project. Only the project managers assigned to a project can add these comments. A history of the changes to the status may be easily reviewed in the project views and the last status comment is available as a column display in the Project Reports. The "last status comment" within project reports is commonly used as a method for reporting the current status of a project, which will then be visible in all project reports. For status report purposes, common names for project status comments are process groups such as Initiating, Planning, Executing, Controlling and Closing. Whenever a project manager makes a comment on the project, one of these selections may then be used to define the current process group when running project reports.

Task Status Comments are comments made at the task level for maintaining a log of changes as they occur for the tasks. Only project managers and resources assigned to the task can make task status comments. A history of the changes to the status may be easily reviewed in the task views and the last status comment is available as a column display in the Task Reports.

File Comments are comments made on file uploads for maintaining a log of changes as they occur for the files. Any user with read access to a file can make file comments. A history of the changes to the status may be easily reviewed in the detail view when clicking on any file upload.

Approval Comments are comments made for Approval Requests for maintaining a log of changes as they occur on approval requests. Approval requests can be assigned to any item (i.e. projects, tasks, files, issues, etc.) and the comments provide details as to the changes and notes made by users within the system, typically the approval requestor and the assigned approvers. A history of the changes to the status of approvals may be reviewed in the approval request views.
